At Sawtooth Regional Landfill, keeping our community and our workers safe is the most important thing we do. Safety is a priority throughout our operation, from the very base of our landfill’s liner to the trucks we screen as they enter our gates. We keep all visitors safe by asking them to follow these Landfill Rules and Requirements.

How We Protect The Community

  • Built strong: Engineered to meet hazardous waste standards, we only accept everyday household trash.

  • Protects groundwater: A double composite liner system protects groundwater by acting as a barrier between waste and environment. Liquid drainage is collected and sent to a treatment system.

  • Protects the air: Special measures are put into place to control dust and windblown litter.

  • Monitored continuously: Sophisticated safety equipment and trained personnel monitor all aspects of the landfill and ensure that only non-hazardous materials are disposed.

  • Screened for radiation: We conduct load checks for radiation using sensitive instruments and delay disposal until cleared by proper agencies.

  • Screened for electronic waste: Load checks take place every day to prevent and minimize e-waste disposal.

  • Exceeds standards: We are one of the most regulated landfills in the US and continuously meet or exceed all safety standards.

  • Inspected regularly: Inspectors from County, State and Federal agencies are on-site during operating hours to provide the regulatory permitting, enforcement and operational compliance oversight.

  • Overseen continuously: We have full-time local enforcement agency inspectors onsite inspecting regularly during all operating hours, including Saturdays.
